Long time no communication, Planet Nerdsketeers (I blame YOU!). In case you didn’t see the tidal wave of publicity (what, you live in Zurich? That’s no excuse!) Planet Nerd was nominated for “Best Comedy” in the 2008 Antenna Awards.

The Antennas award excellence in community television, which is why we didn’t win. However! It was an honour to be nominated, and muchos congratulationes must go to The Bazura Project for not only winning Best Comedy, but also several other awards including Best Sound and People Whose Skin I Would Most Like To Wear Like A Jacket And Pants. Those guys r0x0rz.

Hopefully our nomination will result in us be showered with opportunities to remake Planet Nerd into something truly award winning – stay tuned!

Depending on how you pronounce it, “Live in New Zealand” could have either of two meanings. In this case, it has both, because:

  1. Planet Nerd has gone live on Triangle TV, broadcasting from satellite and terrestrial stations at 9pm Friday nights, and
  2. New Zealand is going to be my life-raft when the rest of the world is drowning/boiling/starving in about 40 years’ time

I congratulate the New Zealanders on their good taste, robust climate, fertile soil and high mountains.

Last weekend I was lucky enough to be part of the inaugural Portable Film Academy. Thanks to Andrew Apostola and all the crew, helpers, speakers and other attendees it was a great weekend and I really learned a lot.

The core task for the weekend was to create an original online series, and below you can watch Episode 1 of our series called “Forever”. This was produced by myself, Johnny Blank and Sebastian Goldspink.

Also a huge thanks to our star Oliver Clark, who was just brilliant as Karl. He nailed every scene in one or two takes, which was great because we were under a lot of time pressure.

A few weeks ago, Dan Walmsley and Adam McKenzie visited Hamilton Island for a week of comedy gigs. What they found was disturbing: a place so seemingly-perfect, so carefree, so fun and yet relaxing, so full of wealthy people partying, so full of free activities and friendly staff, that it just had to have a dark underbelly.

Or so it seems.

This piece was filmed for Channel 31′s Breakfast Show Live.

Dan Walmsley and Adam McKenzie find themselves struggling to defeat a mysterious opponent.

Alright, fine, it’s Todd Woodbridge. There you go. Are you happy now? You made me spoil it.

Just watch the damn video.

A Planet-Nerd-produced music video of a song by Melbourne most magnificent comedian/cabarettist/rock-star, Geraldine Quinn. Featuring cameos by many of Melbourne’s rising stars of comedy, and other people who we just roped in on the promise of free cookies

It be September 19th, and ye know what that means: all ‘cross the Interweb, nerds be talkin’ like pirates. But there be another reason to remember today, an’ that be Punraiser, a fund raising event in support o’ RMIT Fine Arts photography students. So get along to Roxanne Parlour tonight to see a line-up o’ Melbourne’s finest comedians, includin’ Planet Nerd presenter Ben McKenzie talkin’ about science or somesuch, and our very own DVD reviewer, Rob Lloyd, presentin’ a preview of his incredibly nerdy new show, Every Film Ever Made, with Planet Nerd guest star Adam McKenzie. Arrrr!

I got pretty excited about the prospect of Iron Man. You know I did. Just scroll down the page and listen to me sing “How Good Does That Movie Look?” in a slightly flat fashion. But the thing is, I really am a bit excited about Iron Man, and now I have more reason than ever. Sing and ye shall receive! Behold, the Iron Man “teaser trailer”.

…man. How good is that goatee? Plus the soundtrack of the trailer will make metalheads (or more likely, since this is Planet Nerd, Guitar Hero fans) go mental.
